Give Your Images Some Focus

Like Perfect Resize 7 and PhotoFrame 4.6 as discussed in previous blogs, onOne FocaPoint 2 has been available since late October, and, is also included in the new onOne Photo Suite 6 package.

So what is FocalPoint 2?

onOne FocalPoint 2 allows you to control the focus of your image, with depth-of-field and vignette effects to help you show your viewers exactly where to look. Essentially, it’s like bringing your camera lens inside Photoshop, allowing you to add selective focus to images after they have been taken. In a similar way to tilt-shift techniques, FocalPoint 2 uses a ‘Focus Bug’ controller, enabling you to control the amount of blur, focus and light or dark tones in the image.

Features of FocalPoint 2 include:

Multiple Points of Focus

You have the ability to define multiple areas within an image using Focus Bugs, this enables you to create complex blur shapes or highlight multiple areas.

Easy controls

Speaking of Focus Bugs, with FocalPoint 2 the most common functions are placed in a single, easy-to-use control. All you have to do is place the ‘Bug’ over the area you want to blur, then set the size, shape and place using ‘Bug Legs’. Furthermore, you can then choose the scale of the blur by using the ‘Bug Antennae’. All these options are available in one click, in one place.

Bloom, Brightness & Contrast

A new highlight bloom tool lest you control how strong highlights are in the blurred area. There are also brightness and contrast controls available for further enhancements.

Lens Simulator

The blur options available in FocalPoint 2 closely match ‘real’ lens blur for an authentic out-of-focus look. You can closely replicate effects normally only obtainable with expensive, high-desired photographic lenses.

Focus Brush

The focus brush allows you to paint focus or blur exactly where you want it. You can also use the brush to touch-up the shape or Focus Bugs, or blurred areas in your images.

Vignettes

Vignettes have long been used to reduce distractions and focus the viewer’s eye. FocalPoint 2 includes an improved vignette feature for a more natural, edge-only appearance.

Standalone Application

As with the onOne solutions, FocalPoint 2 is available integrated into Photoshop, Aperture or Lightroom, or as a standalone option.

onOne FocalPoint 2 is available to order now. You can learn more about it in the below video:

Resizing an image with onOne

Last week we blogged about background editing with onOne Perfest Mask 5.

This week, we take a look at onOne Perfect resize 7 – the next generation image enlargement software.

onOne Perfect Resize 7 was launched earlier in the year, replacing the ‘Genuine Fractals’ brand previously used by onOne.

It’s essentially the same product, just with a new name. Perfect Resize 7 offers the same high-quality image resizing ability that Genuine Fractals did, which fast became renowned across the photographic and printing industry for this very reason.

The same tried and tested technology that worked so well in Genuine Fractals is at the heart of Perfect Resize 7, with the addition of several new features and enhancements. Using their ‘fractal-based interpolation algorithms’, which despite sounding a bit complex, the results will speak for themselves.

So what’s included in Perfect Resize 7?

Gallery Wrap feature

It’s common practice to print images on canvas and stretch around wooden frames for display. This is called a ‘gallery wrap’. However, when wrapping this way, you can often miss image details near the edges due to stretching the canvas over the frame. The Gallery Wrap feature will automatically create extending margins and reflect, or stretch the image without sacrificing any of the original content. This means the image impact and detail remains central to the display, not lost on the edges.

Tiling and Batch Processing

Large format printing from a small format printer. Divide larger pieces into tiles so you can prepare for printing on a standard sized printer. All you have to do is specify the paper size and overlap options, and Perfect Resize 7 will take care of the rest. You can also resize an entire folder of images, rather than doing them individually. You can specify the size, resolution, file type, colour space and add a watermark to the image if required.

Sizing presets

You may find that digital camera files don’t easily fit or match common paper sizes. This means that you often have to crop an image to ensure it will print out. Perfect Resize 7 provide you with over 60 built-in document size presets, meaning you can precisely crop an image to a specified paper size at the click of a button.

onOne Perfect Resize 7 – like the new releases from onOne – works as a standalone product, or integrated into your existing Photoshop, Lightroom or Aperture workflow. Whatever method you use, Perfect Resize 7 will work for you.

Perfect Resize 7 is available now. Learn more about it in the video below:

A Perfect Mask

Last week we blogged about how Parfect Layers 2 can help you create quality layers.

This week, we take a closer look at the new onOne Perfect Mask 5.

Perfect Mask 5 builds on the success of Mask Pro, which quickly established itself as one of the leading software packages for background editing and replacement. Using the best bits from Mask Pro, Perfect Mask 5 takes editing tools to the next level, automotaing many of the common tasks with increased accuracy.

Used as a standalone item, or intergrated into your existing Lightroom, Aperture or Photoshop workflow, Perfect Mask 5 makes selecting subjects and isolating backgrounds very straight-forward and easy.

Once the inital mask has been created using the automatic background removal tool, you then have the option to fine-tune and erase any further features you don’t want to appear. The process is made as simple as possible, but still retains a high-level of accuracy, even through complex objects such as hair or glass.

So what’s new features are available in Perfect Mask 5?

‘Keep and Erase’ Tools

This feature allows you to select the area you want to remove quickly. Rather than drawing around the edges of an area you want to remove, you simply brush the area instead. Perfect Mask 5 then automatically recognises similarly coloured textures and backgrounds, and replaces them with your choice of image or tone. As long as the background is consistent, this can be done in seconds.

Refine Tool

This features tackles the more complex aspects of an image, like tree branches or hair. As with the Keep and Erase feature, you just swipe the area you want refining and Perfect Mask 5 will do the rest. This ensures a high-level of detail remians in the image.

Background Library

As well as being able to load your own images, Perfect Mask 5 gives you a selection of background images to choose from.

Automatic Solid Background Removal

An ideal feature for green-screen shoots, Perfect Mask 5 allows you to detect a solid background colour and remove it automatically.

Flexible Previews

A new feature available in many of the new onOne packages, the preview option allows you to view your mask and original image side-by-side. This means that you can see the results of your masking in real-time, before applying directly.

Classic Workflows

This option gives you the ability to use tools that have become famililar to Mask Pro users in Perfect Mask 5 as well. This means you can combine the new features Perfect Mask 5 has to offer with the tried and trusted Mask Pro tools.

onOne Perfect Mask 5 will be in stock at the end of Novemeber. You can pre-order your copy here.

In the meantime, check the below video for more information on Perfect Mask 5.

Layering Made Easy with onOne

Last week we had a closer look at the new Perfect Portrait 1 from onOne Software.

This week we look at the new Perfect Layers 2.

Creating layered files outside of Photoshop has now become a little bit more straightforward. Perfect Layers 2 is about creating and editing multilayered files directly from Lightroom and Aperture, or even as a standalone application.

With Perfect Layers 2, you can go about changing skies, combining multiple exposures or multiple images using the built-in blend mode. This enables you to quickly create the image you want, as the process integrates into your existing workflow.

So what new features do you get?

  • Retouch Brush – also found in Perfect Portrait 1 – can be used to remove blemishes and dust spots on images
  • A file browser system allows you to quickly find and load the right files for editing
  • Combine multiple images into a layered Photoshop-compatible file
  • You can crop, adjust layer size and position where you want to blend them together
  • MaskingBug and MaskingBrush make the blending process simple

Lets look more closely at what these features do…

Blending and combining layers

Whether using Lightroom or Aperture, or as a standalone product, Perfect Layers 2 enables you to layer and blend multiple images together. Layering multiple copies of the same image is a technique many photographers will be familiar with, as this helps build character and style within an image. By changing the blending modes, you’ll be able to greater control the brightness, contrast and colour to enhance the appearance overall. You can also adjust the opacity of a layer to bring greater strength to the image.

MaskingBug and MaskingBrush

Users of PhotoTools 2.6 will already be familiar with these tools. MaskingBug and MaskingBrush let you control how much of a layer is visible. The MaskingBrush feature will enable you to ‘paint’ over the image to reveal or hide specific areas of a layer. MaskingBug helps you create gradient masks to emphasise vignettes and filter effect gradients. Both tools work together, and can be re-edited within Photoshop should you require.

Retouch Brush

A feature available on many of the new products, the Retouch Brush means you can quickly remove any unwanted blemishes, dust spots, power lines or other distractions from the image.

File Browser

The file browser provides a filmstrip style table so you can quickly browse and find the right files. You can also have several browser tabs open at the same time so you can find the multiple elements needed for your image.

onOne Perfect Layers 2 will be shipping from the end of November. You can learn more about it by watching the below video:

A Perfect Portrait, Every Time

Last week we blogged about one of onOne’s new releases – Perfect Effects 3.

This week, we take a closer look at the second new offering from onOne: Perfect Portrait 1.

As the name suggests, onOne Perfect Portrait 1 is about exactly that; getting the best possible portrait shot using simple and powerful retouching techniques.

As with all the new releases, onOne Perfect Portrait 1 works directly with Lightroom, Aperture and Photoshop, or on its own as a standalone product depending on which you prefer. This means you can still benefit from the software even if you don’t have or use Photoshop.

The idea behind onOne Perfect Portrait is to reduce the time it takes to retouch and tune an image so you can concentrate on the art of retouching itself, not how to go about doing it. What were often the most time-consuming tasks are now automated within the software; leaving you to focus on improving skin textures and colour, removing blemishes or enhancing features like eyes and lips, rather than the technicalities of how to achieve such enhancements. Getting high quality images is now that little bit easier.

So what’s new in onOne Perfect Portrait 1?

  • Automatic Face Detection – Perfect Portrait will automatically identify a face within an image.
  • Automatic Feature Detection – As well as identifying the face, Perfect Portrait will pick out the eyes and mouth too. This leaves you to get on with the task of working on those areas, rather than having to specify them before-hand.
  • Retouch Brush – The retouch brush will help you remove any unwanted skin blemishes, stray hairs or veins by dabbing the affected area. The software will automatically remove or reduce them.
  • Skin Blemish Removal and Smoothing – Perfect Portrait will give you a natural looking skin tone automatically. It maintains realistic skin structures, so portraits don’t get that overly retouched or edited look. Wrinkles, blemishes and deep pores can be reduced if necessary, with skin given a smooth, even consistency.
  • SkinTune Colour Correction – Perfect portrait helps you get an accurate and natural skin colour automatically. The correction technology adjusts colour based on the skin colour of each face in the image.

All the above features are controlled and managed by you. You probably noticed the amount of times ‘automatically’ appeared in the above descriptions –  although the features are described as ‘automatic’, you still have the ability to control how much, or little of an effect you want to have. This means you can make an image as bold or subtle as you desire, and more importantly, means your portrait images still look natural.

onOne Perfect Portrait 1 will be shipping very soon, so keep checking www.colorconfidence.com for the latest, or watch the video below to get a further insight into the software:
